In October we reported that Chinese app developer, Bytedance, was seeking funding for its video-streaming app TikTok at a $75 billion valuation.  Perhaps the global media coverage surrounding this news provided a massive marketing push for TikTok.

New SensorTower data show that during October of 2018, TikTok surpassed Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and Snapchat in monthly installs for the first time.

In response to TikTok’s massive success in the U.S. market, and particularly the tween demo, Facebook announced a standalone competitor called Lasso, a mobile app where users can record and share videos of themselves lip-syncing or dancing to popular songs.
