Karate Combat, the live-action martial arts sports league, has appointed UFC Hall of Famer Bas Rutten as its new Chairman. In his role, Rutten will assist with strategic league decisions, provide commentary for each fight, participate in promotional content, and serve as a spokesperson for the league.

Rutten has been an advisor and commentator for Karate Combat since 2018, and he is excited to contribute to the league’s embrace crypto and AR technology. Karate Combat recently raised $18 million to enhance fan engagement using XR technologies and web3 tools. The league also launched its iOS and web applications and introduced the $KARATE token on the Hedera and Ethereum blockchains.

Since the launch, the mobile app has been downloaded over 100,000 times and the $KARATE token is held by more than 20,000 wallets. Rutten will be the live commentator at the next Karate Combat event in Miami. Bas Rutten is a retired MMA fighter, Karate and Taekwondo black belt, and Muay Thai kickboxer. He was a UFC Heavyweight Champion and three-time King of Pancrase world champion.
