A recent survey commissioned by Consensys and conducted by YouGov reveals interesting insights into the attitudes and behaviors of people around the world towards web3 and crypto. The survey included 15,158 participants from 15 countries across the Americas, Europe, Africa, and Asia. In India, 75% of respondents expressed a desire for more control over their identity online, and the concept of the Metaverse was more familiar to them than Web3 and NFTs.

The survey results highlight a shift in user behavior towards active participation, empowerment, and broader community ownership, characterized by web3. 37% of Indian respondents see cryptocurrencies as the “future of money,” and 31% believe in their potential as the “future of digital ownership” and a way to participate in a global financial ecosystem. Additionally, 57% of Indian respondents would consider investing in crypto in the next 12 months, and they view crypto as an environmentally friendly technology.

The survey also reveals some contrasts between countries. For example, Nigeria and Argentina show the highest motivation to own cryptocurrencies as a means to store value, while in India, crypto is considered more as an investment for the future. Concerns around scams vary among countries, with people in India, the US, and the UK being more concerned compared to Japan and Korea.

Consensys, a leading web3 software technology company, sees the empowerment of builders as fundamental to its purpose and is focused on supporting people worldwide to understand the potential of web3 and provide them with the tools they need to get started. Consensys is launching an evolved brand identity that reframes “builder” to be more inclusive of artists, community creators, collectors, and everyone.

Overall, the survey results suggest a growing mainstream desire for more control over online identity, data sharing, and the equitable sharing of profits. Web3 and crypto empower individuals by shifting control of identity from third parties to the individual and establishing new paradigms of value creation and community formation.
